Google Stadia will close

The following image can be seen on the Google Stadia Store page, stating that the Google Stadia cloud-based game service will cease to exist on January 18, 2023.

On the Google page, we received answers to the following questions:

Q: How long can I play my games at the Stadia?

A: We will leave the Stadia platform and game servers online until January 18, 2023, so you can continue to play in your library.

 

Q: Will all games work as expected during this time?

A: We expect to experience some gameplay issues during this period, especially for any game that requires trading, but most games should continue to function normally.

 

Q: What about my gameplay? Can I port my game to another platform?

A: While this is possible for some games that support cross-play on other platforms, unfortunately it is not possible for the majority of games.

 

Q: Will I get a refund? What can be requested as a refund?

A: We offer refunds for all Stadia hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, and Play and Watch with Google TV bundles) made through the Google Store, as well as software transactions (game and accessory purchases) made through the Stadia store. Stadia Pro subscriptions are non-refundable, but you can continue to play in Pro at no additional charge until the final termination date.

 

Q: Do I have to return the hardware for a refund?

A: Most hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, and Play and Watch with Google TV bundles) purchased directly from Google do not need to be returned. More details on how to refund Stadia hardware purchases will be posted here in the coming weeks.

 

Q: How/when will I receive my refund?

A: We are currently working on this process and will continue to update this article as we determine the process for each country and situation. We aim to refund the majority of refunds to the original payment by January 18, 2023.

 

Q: Will you refund my Stadia Pro subscription?

A: We do not offer refunds for Stadia Pro subscriptions. Players who had an active Stadia Pro subscription on September 29, 2022 will not be charged for access to their Pro library or other subscription privileges during the blackout period.

 

Q: Why can't I buy games anymore? Can I buy in-game transactions?

A: We have closed the Stadia Store and disabled all commerce on the Stadia platform, including in-game transactions.

 

Q: I no longer have the payment method I used at the time of purchase, how can I get a refund?

A: Look out for an email from us, where we will give you instructions on how to choose a new payment method.

 

Q: I paid with a gift card and have since thrown it away, how do I get a refund?

A: Look out for an email from us, where we will give you instructions on how to choose a new payment method.

 

Q: I pre-ordered something - do I have to pay?

A: All future pre-orders will be canceled and no fees will be charged. If it has already been debited, you will get the amount you paid back.

 

Q: Can I return hardware to physical locations (Google Store, Best Buy, etc.)?

A: No. Physical locations (Google Store, Best Buy, etc.) cannot process any returns or refunds.
