2023 is off to an exciting start, as comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) arrives

2023. 01. 01.

In 2022, we were able to report a lot of spectacular astronomical events, and next year will start in a similar way, because according to the American space agency, a comet will approach the Earth throughout January and February, which can even be seen with the naked eye.

Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) was discovered last March while it was orbiting Jupiter. According to the current trajectory of the comet, it should come closest to the Sun until January 12, and then, according to NASA, it will be in its closest position to the Earth on February 2 - about 42.5 million kilometers away. Then you will even be able to see the celestial phenomenon with the naked eye.

Towards the end of January, it will be worthwhile to look for the comet between the Small and the Great Göncöl. Of course, this can change, since comets often change orbits, and in this case they may appear elsewhere. By the way, the last time we had the opportunity to see a comet with the naked eye was in 2020, when NEOWISE arrived, which was very spectacular.
